A Legendary Beginning
Baseball in Howard Lake traces their roots back to the 1920s in Howard Lake, Minnesota. Originally known as the Blue Sox, the team was revived in 1947 after World War II. Without a permanent sponsor or home field, the players adopted the nickname “The Orphans”, a name that quickly became a proud tradition in Minnesota town ball history.

Reviving the Orphans
After the program folded in the late 1960s, baseball returned to Howard Lake in 1995 thanks to the dedication of local community members determined to bring town ball back to the city. The revival reunited fans, families, and players around a shared love for the game and helped restore the Orphans as a cornerstone of the community.

A Tradition of Town Ball Excellence
Since returning to the field, the Orphans have become one of Minnesota’s respected Class C town ball programs, earning multiple state tournament appearances and memorable postseason runs. Playing at Memorial Park, known by fans as “The Orphanage”, the team continues to represent the pride, tradition, and community spirit of Howard Lake baseball.
