Baseball in Howard Lake traces their roots back to the 1920s. Originally known as the Blue Sox, the team was revived in 1947 after World War II. Without a permanent sponsor or home field, the players adopted the nickname “The Orphans”, a name that quickly became a proud tradition in town ball history.
Reviving the Orphans
After the program folded in the late 1960s, baseball returned to in 1995 thanks to the dedication of community members determined to bring town ball back. The revival reunited fans, families, and players around a shared love for the game and restored the Orphans as a cornerstone.
Tradition of Excellence
Since returning to the field, the Orphans have become one of Minnesota’s respected Class C town ball programs, earning multiple state tournament appearances and memorable postseason runs. The Orphans Play on the lakeat Memorial Park, known by fans as “The Orphanage.”
